At WCLA we use the PSHE association scheme of work. By using this scheme we can ensure all content required is relevant and up to date with any government expectations.
We teach PSHE as part of our whole school curriculum. During the sessions pupils will develop knowledge, skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, team working and critical thinking. The context of this learning is covered in three core themes: health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world (including economic wellbeing and aspects of careers education).
Included in the relationships core theme the pupils will also be taught a unit of SRE (sex, relationship education) following the year group appropriate Christopher Winter scheme.
In 2020, the relationship and health aspects of the PSHE scheme will be compulsory.
PSHE coverage is not just taught or referred to in stand-alone lessons it is also taught implicitly in all areas of the curriculum, as well as during assemblies reiterated through our school and class rules. PSHE is an intrinsic part of our curriculum to aid children’s participation in the wider world beyond WCLA.
