At WCLA, we teach Religious Education (RE) lessons, so that the children will encounter different religions, develop understanding and tolerance and have the opportunity to make reasonable responses. We also develop a knowledge and understanding of different religions, so pupils are empathetic towards people’s religious beliefs and values in their local setting and beyond.
RE is taught to all age groups through weekly lessons. WCLA follow the SACRE guidelines and plan RE lessons from the ‘Discovery RE’ scheme which meets the expectation of the Cheshire East locally agreed syllabus. To reinforce the learning of RE, the children also have the chance to encounter religious experiences, such as, visiting the local church, meeting religious speakers and handling real artefacts.
To best prepare pupils for the next stage of their academic journey at high school, we teach RE beliefs and practice of several religions, mainly Christianity, Judaism, Humanism, Hinduism and Islam. This grounding provides the children to explore RE further in Key Stage Three.
