Our Summer term topic is Coastlines/ The Seaside/ The Environment
English – Writing –
This half term we will be look at the book ‘Grandad’s Secret Giant’. We will be using various genres of writing to explore new vocabulary and learn new writing skills such as:
- Using the past and present tense correctly and consistently, including the progressive form
- Using subordination (when, if, that, because) and co-ordination (and, but, or, so)
- Using expanded noun phrases to describe and specify
- Using suffixes to spell longer words; -ment, -ful, -less and -ness.
English – Reading
During our reading lessons we will be looking at the book ‘Grimm’s Fairytales’. Children will continue to work on answering questions based on what they have read and improving inference skills. We will be asking questions based on what we have read and discussing our favourite words and phrases.
During our Maths lessons this term we will be looking at statistics and position and direction. We will also be re-visiting topics to secure our knowledge ready for Year 3 such as Money and Shape.
The Seaside (Summer 2)
This half term we will be looking at The Seaside and as part of this we will be taking a trip to Llandudno. As part of our work on the Seaside, we will be looking at key physical features of the seaside alongside looking at changes in Seaside areas over time. As part of our Art project, we will be creating a Seaside sculputre using a mixture of natural and man-made materials.
2B have PE on Tuesday and Thursday
2S have PE on Monday and Thursday
On these days we ask that children come to school in their PE clothes rather than their school uniform.
Weather dependant they can wear their shorts and school coloured PE T- shirt and House PE sweatshirt. If the weather is cold, then track suit bottoms/leggings would be more suitable. Trainers are preferable to pumps as it is possible the children may be outdoors for some lessons.
