Mathematics at Church Lane.

Without mathematics, there’s nothing you can do.

Everything around you is mathematics.

Everything around you is numbers.”Shakuntala Devi

At Church Lane we believe Maths should be engaging, exciting and should develop our children’s mathematical thinking.

We teach Maths through a mastery curriculum with the belief that every child is capable of success. We use the Concrete – Pictorial- Abstract approach as it develops a deep and sustainable understanding of maths in pupils. As a school we follow the White Rose Maths Scheme and use other resources to ensure our lessons are stimulating.

Teachers at Church Lane believe that every child is a capable mathematician with the ability to reason and problem solve. Children will link old and new learning experiences together in order to develop fluency and build a deeper understanding of their maths. Opportunities for reasoning, explanation and clarification are given throughout our maths lessons. High quality dialogue within the classroom will make sure our children are challenging their own thoughts with those around them whilst broadening their knowledge and understanding.
