Year One

Over the Easter holidays, class teachers will not be setting children daily home learning tasks. However, if you wish, there are lots of additional ideas for activities here:

Daily home learning tasks will begin again after the Easter holidays.

Welcome to our year one page.

Here you will find lots of information about the year one curriculum, learning and events.

Who is who?

Year one is split into two classes

Class Teachers: Mrs Clyne and Mrs Wrigley Class Teacher: Miss Potts
Teaching Assistant: Miss Bateman Teaching Assistants: Mrs Simpson and Miss Spencer

Miss Potts has her PPA time on Wednesday mornings, where our wonderful higher level teaching assistant Miss Freisner takes her class and teaches R.E and Computing skills. Mrs Wrigley's has one session on a Monday and Mrs Clyne has a session on a Wednesday.

P.E for Miss Potts's class will usually take place on Monday afternoons. However it is a good idea to keep p.E kits in school as we often have outside agencies popping in to deliver taster sessions.

Year 1 Topics

Autumn 1 - All about me

We look at everything about us, including our birthdays, family trees, where we live and what makes us special.

Autumn 2 - Homes from the Past

We compare how we live today with lives from the past. We look out how the rich lived in their grand mansions and compare this to how poorer people lived. We love visiting Attingham Park and experiencing being servants, Lords and Ladies.

Spring 1 - Toys

We compare our own toys to those from the past. We look at Toy Story to do some descriptive writing and we learn how Lego was invented.

Spring 2 - Fairy Tales

We look at lots of traditional tales and what makes them fictional. We use our drama skills to re-enact our favourite and create fairy tale artwork.

Summer 1 - Growing

We grow our own beanstalks and learn about how to keep plants alive. We also look at how animals and humans grow and do some measuring.

Summer 2 - Under the sea

We learn the names of the 5 oceans and discover what is in them with help from Sir David Attenborough's 'Blue Planet'. We look at Australia's Coral Reef and non-fiction books about the sea.

Wistaston Walk - We take a walk around our local village to create maps in Geography.
